I wanted the look of a fallen temple. Basically, all of those pictures you see about old Abyssinian ruins and marketplaces. What do they look like? Cracked pillars from ages ago, broken urns and baskets stacked around and placed in the drifts of sand that invade the bazaar trying to reclaim it for the desert.
Anyways, you can't have just one of those. You need them all around with people sitting around them smoking hookahs, charming snakes, all of whom have no idea about the grand history they sit in as they lean up against the ruins, peddling strange spices and oriental rugs.
They also work well for dungeon settings. After all: there's your mummy, it isn't going to be surrounded by Irish cottages and pig iron fences. Nope. You will need fallen Egyptian pillars and broken pnoptic jars. Either way, your tomb will look medieval if you don't have the right style for your ruins.
